About the hotel Central

HOTEL CENTRAL*** is located in the very heart of Zagreb opposite the main railway station and close to the bus station and the terminal for Zagreb Airport.

Only a 10-minute walk from the hotel through Zrinjevac Park, one of the most beautiful parks in Zagreb, will bring you to the main square and the historic center of the city. Popular coffee shops, well-known museums, galleries, shops, the Dolac market, and sights of the medieval area of the city are all within easy reach.

The hotel is suitable for business people and for tourists who are passing Zagreb. Guest have at their disposal 63 comfortably equipped rooms, 16 of which are single rooms, 39 double rooms, 8 triple rooms, and four family rooms. A buffet breakfast is served in the pleasant atmosphere of the dining room from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. to completely meet your obligations and plans.

The hotel also has two conference rooms for meetings with up to 70 participants equipped with an LCD projector, flip charts, and a P.A. system in an attractive location with a view of the picturesque streets of Zagreb.

We can provide our guests with parking in an underground garage in the Importanne Center (Level 3) one hundred meters from the hotel. The price for hotel guests is 150 kunas (20 €) per day. Parking can be paid at the hotel reception by presenting the parking ticket. It is not necessary to reserve a parking space.

History of the hotel

The building (constructed by Mr. E. Eiswer on the site of the current Hotel Central – “on the corner of Petrinjska Street opposite the railway station”) was erected in 1893.

The building has served several functions in its history – primarily as a hostel with the America Restaurant and wine cellar. Mr. Antun Gregorić managed the hotel from 1930 until its closing in 1947.

Until the re-opening of the hotel in 1952, the building housed the offices for military invalids and the canteen of the workshops of the national railroad

The hospitality enterprise “Hotel Central” was founded on 29 December 1951 based on a decision of the People’s Committee of the City of Zagreb, when it took over the hotel. It has been successfully operating since that time.

In 1960, the two-story building was partially demolished and the Sisak Steelworks, based on a unique project of the engineer V. Ugrenović of 1957-1959 and the Architectural Project Office Ugrenović of 1960, and as part of the project and working drawings, produced a steel skeleton construction with four floors and a mansard roof.

Between 1994 and 1996 reconstruction of the facade, roof, and some of the rooms was carried out and the hotel acquired its current appearance.

A suspended ventilating aluminum structural facade based on a project of the company Interkonzalting of Zagreb under architectural engineers Ranko Lukas and Ante Labur was carried out for the first time in the Republic of Croatia on a metal supporting structure with tempered reflective windows and with casings of ALUCOBONDA, the coating of the ground floor façade with black Nero Assoluto polished granite, and covering the roof area with copper sheets. In 2001-2002, the hotel was completely air conditioned. In 2007, the Tomislav reception room was renovated, and in 2015, the final adaptation, the renovation and outfitting of the majority of the rooms, the reception area and the dining room, was completed.

The hotel provides indoor parking in the garage of the Importanne Center (only on the lowest level – 3) 100 meters from the hotel. The price for hotel guests is 150 kunas (20 €*) per day.

Parking can be paid at the hotel reception upon presentation of the parking ticket and is valid until checking out from the hotel. It is not necessary to reserve a parking place.
